Launched in 2004 ModernCoinMart is a child company of John Maben Rare Coins Inc.. With over 35 professional and numismatist employees they have a vast amount of experience in both the numismatic and precious metals world. Claiming to be one of the fastest growing dealers, it's claim to fame is that it ships to more international destinations than any other dealer in the US.
I have bought several items from MCM over the last couple of years. All in silver, some bullion and some collectables. In most cases their pricing was the best as it included free shipping. Like any metals dealer their prices can be high with new releases and/or limited availability. Of course the precious metals market dictates what items will sell for and I believe the margins that MCM uses are very good. The shipping is not fast but I've bought from other dealers that take just as long. If you do the proper research and aren't in a rush you'll get the best deals out there from this company.
MCM never says no!
Received an opened empty shipping package!
3 Day USPS Priority Shipping to NYS
Because of other comments regarding slow shipping I wanted to write and convey my experience. I ordered a US Proof Set online on May 1, 2017. I got confirmation that the item was shipped on May 1st by USPS Priority Mail and I received the item on May 4th. I live in New York State. I thought the shipping time was great. The proof set was adequately packaged and arrived unharmed. The proof set was as described on their website. I am a happy first-time customer of MCM.
Great Prices & Slowwwwwwww Shipping
MCM has some of the best prices online, but their shipping time frame is slow, even thou I live in the same state they are in Florida. Since I live in Florida, I also get charged taxes, so be aware of that. It sky rockets the price of your purchase if you are a Florida resident.
Also I am not happy with what they are charging for the new silver Krugerrand coin prices! I am not the only one either, check online and YouTube and you will find many many people complaining about it. That's the main reason why I gave a 3.5 star review for price.
Best coin dealer ever!
I love Modern coin mart! The most distinguished coin dealer around, hands down.
Very slow to ship and there seems to be a problem in their area with the postal service. Often gets to a facility and just sits there! The shipment I am waiting for now sat in Ft. Myers for 4 days, on another shipment it sat in Tampa for a week. If they can't do priority shipping I will go elsewhere.
Random Year Order
Just received on Monday the order placed on Thursday. I ordered the silvet eagles random years at about 22.00ea. Received a 1992 coin that shows on competitors sites from $75~$35.00.
This is second oder with the company and I am very pleased.
Im in the process of ordering more.
Fast, Reliable & Competitive
I first found MCM on eBay about 3 years ago and that is where I bought my first coin from them. I received my coin in about 4 days (they are in Florida, I'm in California). It was exactly what they advertised and I had no problem from A-Z.
MCM has a very large range of products, both raw uncertified coins to MS/PR/PF graded coins. Their premiums are a bit high, my opinion, but for that you know you're getting a genuine and legitimate precious metal coin.
I've also bought from APMEX, and if forced to choose, I would buy from MCM every time. I think APMEX has extremely high premiums and the only time I had to deal with their customer service, it was not a good experience. When I had to call MCM about an order, their customer service was fantastic. The rep was very nice and did everything I could have hoped for. MCM has amazing customer service.
You won't be disappointed making a precious metal purchase from MCM.
Amazing Customer Service
99% of the time I place an order it goes along pretty much as expected. Occasionally there is a hiccup, and this is where that rare company excels at making sure you are satisfied. Without all the boring details, MCM provided a level of service I had never experienced before after a problem with my order arose. Prior to placing this order I had been dealing with about 5 vendors depending upon the nature of my purchase. For the most part it looks like MCM provides the best prices for my needs but even at a premium its worth using them just for the confidence I gain from their unparalleled level of customer service. KUDOS to MCM for gaining another life long customer.
I'd like to update my review from last year. Although the bullion I got wasn't in great shape, I did purchase more from them again a while after that with no issues. And recently I made a purchase from them and I got the bullion within a few days. All with no issues. So I'd like to adjust the review I made, since the issue I had seems to have been a fluke and the other times I've ordered from MCM have been great.
So I place an order on eBay over a month ago. I still haven't received my order yet. The post office told me that it was undelivered. Call modern coin shop and they haven't received the packaged back. They want me to sign some paperwork to get a refund. I would not buy from this company no more. I recommend provident metal and jm bullion.

Great price for a rare coin .. Fast delivery!!!
MCM is cheating on my purchase from them
2nd time deal with MCM. I bought their last 3 1/2 OZ Platinum eagle coins in price below $600 in July 2015. And they received my order and check, so I was waiting my order to be shipped out patiently. But when I check my email, I found they tried to ask me to send them my government ID with picture, front and back, claimed to check my address, gee, they have my check and can cash it, why worry about my address? And I hesitated, so they cancelled my order and return my check. And now I just saw they are listing my 3 coin at $660 each (8/18/2015). 10% up. Now I know why they play this shit of government ID thing. F...K MCM, never to try to buy from them. Provident and APMEX never do that. And I bought a lot from them. MCM is not trustworthy seller. I learned in hard way.
Great first time experience
I have only dealt with MCM coins one time, and very recently. I wanted to order a recent-mintage Libertad in order to add to my world coin collection. In my particular local area, few coin shops had them, and those that did had them for unreasonable prices. After scouring the internet and finding similarly outrageous prices- or just as bad, a sound price but exorbitant ‘handling’ and shipping fees (which seem to be common with the more popular bullion sites)- I reluctantly turned to eBay.
I generally don’t like to use eBay – I don’t like bidding as a rule and most of the time the ‘Buy-it-now” prices are jacked up. But MCM seemed like it had a very reasonable price relative to spot and the popularity of the Libertad. Best of all, shipping was free.
I HATE to pay for shipping. That makes or breaks a sale for me in all honesty.
So I pay for the coin via PayPal and I get an auto-confirmation. Now, this is the only point in the whole experience that *could* be improved – I got very little initial communication from the buyer. I got said communication within a reasonable amount of time comparative to the purchase date so it’s not a deterrent for me personally, but very little interaction overall. Shipping was slow but I knew that up front (and I’m fine with slower shipping if I don’t have to pay for it!) The package was securely wrapped and the coin itself was encased in an almost impenetrable sarcophagus of thick cardboard.
The coin itself was absolutely gorgeous! To be fair it was a 2014 and I would EXPECT it to be so, but it was just about a perfect non-proof specimen as one can get. I am very pleased with my purchase and I am sure to frequent MCM in the future.
MCM is fairly popular, mainly on Ebay. I image they process a lot of orders and maybe I was just unlucky. Either way, I can't recommend them. For one, their prices aren't that great, especially when you order from them on Ebay. Their shipping time is about average and their CS is about average. The issue I have is that the two rolls of Morgan silver dollar rounds I ordered from them were beat up; they didn't have dings in them, it just looked like they had been grinding against each other for a couple of years. The face of each round had a rub spot in the middle, and there were silver shards on the bottom of the roll case. The edges felt sharp in spots, like a can after you open it with a can opener. They definitely didn't check these rolls; and I know they're not supposed to be in perfect condition, but I don't think these rounds were even saleable except for scrap.
I should have sent them back but I didn't want to bother, and I ended up selling them to someone that didn't care what they looked like. That order definitely put me off from ordering from MCM again (plus, their prices suck), and if I ever buy from a big company on ebay again, I will just stick with Silvertowne.
